Who's Behind This Beer Tourist Thing?
The Moutere Inn, New Zealand's Oldest Pub in it's Original Building is the creator and maintainer of Beer Tourist. We've been an independent craft beer pub since 2008 and we know a few things about craft beer.
The industry has rapidly changed in the past decade or more, and in 2009 we decided to help people get a handle on what was happening. Our aim is to map all NZ owned craft breweries and all recommended outlets with 8 or more permanent craft beer taps. Fortunately, there are now heaps of breweries and outlets so this site is becoming quite big!
We only mention mainstream breweries in the Tours page. You'll find details of craft beer tours under each brewery that offers them. Recent craft breweries purchased by mainstream operators are also only mentioned in the Tours page.
Our guidelines on what is and is not a craft brewery includes being New Zealand owned. Right or wrong, a line has to be drawn somewhere. It also means some recently purchased craft breweries are not included here even though they're jolly decent brewers.
If you run into any new breweries or craft beer bars that are not here please let us know on [email protected]. Likewise, if any close. We can't just continually travel around the country visiting breweries and sampling bars - or could we?
Thanks!
Andrew and Dave
